ICPC arrests former NIMASA DG, Bashir Jamoh in Kaduna

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Dr. Bashir Jamoh, former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in Kaduna State.

The arrest occurred last Thursday and was confirmed by a family representative, Kazeem Olajide.

According to Olajide, Jamoh was intercepted by armed men identifying themselves as ICPC operatives while returning from court to his residence in Kaduna.

The officers reportedly wore jackets bearing the commission’s insignia.

Olajide said Jamoh was first taken to his home, where the operatives conducted a search, before transporting him to Abuja on the same day.

Since then, the family has reportedly been unable to contact him, and Jamoh has not had access to his legal counsel, raising concerns about his welfare.

The family added that repeated attempts to ascertain his whereabouts and condition have yielded no information.

They also claimed that Jamoh was cooperative at the time of the arrest.

Jamoh’s detention has attracted public attention given his former role as head of NIMASA, a key federal agency responsible for maritime administration, safety, and security.

The ICPC, Nigeria’s main anti-corruption body, routinely investigates and prosecutes cases involving public officials and former office holders.

As of now, the ICPC has not released any official statement regarding the reasons for Jamoh’s arrest or the nature of any allegations against him.

The family said they do not know if he has been formally charged and continue to seek access to him and his legal team.

The case highlights ongoing public interest in the operations of anti-corruption agencies and the handling of high-profile detentions.

Observers are closely watching developments to ensure due process is followed.
