The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the timely release of approved funds to the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen security operations and address insecurity nationwide.
Dr. Ogunjimi gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and his delegation at the AGF’s office in Abuja.
According to the AGF, the Nigeria Police Force plays a critical role in tackling the country’s security challenges and therefore requires adequate financial support to carry out its duties effectively and professionally.
He also noted that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August 2026 would demand significant government support to ensure smooth police operations and effective election security management.
Dr. Ogunjimi further advised the IGP to sustain engagements with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy to facilitate the release of outstanding funds owed to the Police, warning that inadequate funding could negatively affect vital security operations.
Earlier, IGP Disu appealed for the prompt release of outstanding allocations to enable the Police to effectively fulfill their constitutional responsibilities. He emphasized that adequate funding would be essential for maintaining peace and credibility during the upcoming off-season elections.
