FG Begins Payment of N35,000 Wage Award Arrears to Civil Servants

The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of the long-awaited N35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants, fulfilling a key part of its promise to cushion the impact of recent economic reforms on public workers.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa.

According to the OAGF, several federal employees have already confirmed receipt of the payments, which began rolling out over the weekend. The office assured that those who are yet to receive the wage award will be paid in due course, as the disbursement continues in batches.

The wage award, introduced as part of the federal government’s palliative measures, will be paid in five monthly installments of N35,000 each, totaling N175,000 per beneficiary.

Responding to recent reports by some online media outlets, the OAGF categorically denied claims that the N35,000 wage award was excluded from the 2025 national budget. It clarified that the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, has not made any public statement to that effect.

“The Accountant General has not addressed the press on the wage award issue. Any contrary reports are false and misleading,” the statement read.

The OAGF reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all outstanding arrears are paid, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directives and the agreements reached with labour unions.

The payment comes amid continued economic adjustments and rising living costs, and is expected to bring some relief to federal workers who have been awaiting the implementation of the award since its announcement.
