Rashidi Ladoja Emerges as 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland
Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has been formally nominated as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan-In-Council.
The historic endorsement took place on Monday during a crucial meeting held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, located within the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. The session was chaired by the Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola.
Confirming the development, Oba Ajibola stated that the council had unanimously agreed on Ladoja’s nomination.
“We, the members of the Olubadan-In-Council, have all signed and endorsed Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.
He noted that the resolution will now be transmitted to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who is constitutionally empowered to ratify the nomination and set a date for the official presentation of the staff of office.
However, Ajibola clarified that the installation will not take place immediately due to the funeral arrangements for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, scheduled for this week.
“The burial rites of the late Olubadan are our current priority. Once that is concluded, Governor Makinde may choose a date maybe in a week, two, or three to formally install the new monarch,” he added.
Ladoja’s nomination marks a significant moment in the traditional leadership of Ibadan, as he steps into a revered role deeply rooted in Yoruba history and culture.
