The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE-Internal), 54 days after the conclusion of the nationwide exercise.

Announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, said 818,492 candidates (60.26%) out of the 1,358,339 candidates who sat for the June/July exams secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

He further disclosed that 1,144,496 candidates (84.26%) obtained five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

According to him, 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 685,514 males and 681,696 females, while 1,358,339 candidates eventually sat for the tests.

The examination, conducted between June 16 and July 25, 2025, also recorded participation from 1,622 candidates with special needs, including 941 with hearing impairment and 191 with visual impairment.

On malpractice, Wushishi revealed that 3,878 candidates were caught cheating in 2025, a sharp decline from 10,094 cases in 2024, representing a 61.58% reduction. He added that 38 schools in 13 states were implicated in mass cheating and would face sanctions, while nine supervisors across Rivers, Niger, FCT, Kano, and Osun States have been recommended for blacklisting over misconduct and poor supervision.

The Registrar also highlighted security-related disruptions in Adamawa State, where communal clashes in Lamorde LGA disrupted exams in eight schools, affecting 13 subjects and 29 papers. Discussions with the state government are ongoing to reschedule the affected examinations.

Wushishi noted that the Council has reduced examinable subjects to 38 in line with the revised curriculum, aimed at shortening result processing time.

In terms of state performance, Kano topped the chart with 68,159 candidates (5.02%) scoring five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, followed by Lagos (67,007 candidates, 4.93%) and Oyo (48,742 candidates). At the bottom of the performance table was Gabon centre, where no candidate secured five credits and above in English and Mathematics.

He added that NECO has begun the transition from the traditional paper-pencil test to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model, with both public and private schools already taking part in the first phase.
