EFCC Arrests 10 Suspects, Seizes Trucks Over Alleged Illegal Mining in Kwara
By Edward Oluwarotimi
Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 10 suspects over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis.
The arrests were carried out on Sunday, February 1, 2026, following credible intelligence on unlawful mineral excavation and transportation across parts of Kwara and Oyo states.
The suspects, comprising nine truck drivers and one escort, were intercepted during a well-coordinated sting operation and taken into custody. Solid minerals recovered from them include lithium, tin and lepidolite.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lacked the requisite licences, permits and regulatory approvals to engage in mining or mineral transportation activities.
Also recovered were trucks loaded with the illegally mined minerals. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
