LIRS Extends Individual Tax Return Deadline to April 14, Pushes e-Filing Compliance

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns by two weeks, moving it from the statutory March 31 deadline to April 14, 2026.

Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, announced the extension in a statement on Monday, noting that the decision was taken to give taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.

He reaffirmed that March 31 remains the official deadline for annual filings but stressed that the extension is aimed at easing compliance and encouraging proper documentation among taxpayers.

Subair urged individuals to prioritise timely filing of their income tax returns, describing compliance as a civic responsibility that should be embedded in routine financial practices.

He also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved submission channel, following the complete phase-out of manual filings. Taxpayers are therefore required to file exclusively through the official portal.

Describing the platform as secure, user-friendly and accessible round the clock, the LIRS boss advised filers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly entered to avoid processing issues.
