Major Network Outages Hit MTN Subscribers Across Several States
By Abiodun Folarin
Subscribers of MTN Nigeria are experiencing significant service disruptions following a fibre cut affecting multiple locations in Abia, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Major Outages Portal, the affected areas include Aba North and Aba South in Abia, Umuahia North, Obio-Akpor and Opobo/Nkoro in Rivers, as well as Abuja Municipal Area Council and Bwari in the FCT. The disruption has primarily impacted data services, leaving customers unable to access mobile internet and related online services.
The NCC portal provides real-time updates on major service outages reported by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), including information on impact, response times, and resolution status. MTN users are advised to stay informed through the platform for updates on restoration timelines.
No official timeline for full restoration has yet been provided, but MTN has acknowledged the fibre cut and is reportedly working to resolve the issue.
The outage underscores ongoing infrastructure vulnerabilities in Nigeria’s telecom network, affecting both individual users and businesses that rely on stable data connectivity for daily operations.
