The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff across Grade Levels 03 to 06, following recommendations from its Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC).
The decision was reached during the Commission’s weekly meeting on Thursday, September 25, 2025, presided over by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The session also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election, and the conduct of party primaries in Ekiti and Osun States.
According to the Commission, 515 staff were shortlisted for the promotion exercise. Out of this number, 214 scaled to GL07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05, and 17 to GL04.
INEC explained that the promotion of junior staff marks the completion of the first phase of its 2025 staff appraisal process, with the promotion of senior staff already underway.
“Staff promotion is a routine exercise. The Commission remains committed to regular merit-based promotion and the welfare of its workforce,” said National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, in a statement.
He urged staff to remain dedicated to their duties, especially as the Commission prepares for critical electoral activities in the months ahead.
