INEC Denies Suspending Ward Delineation in Warri Federal Constituency

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming it suspended action on the proposed delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency following an order of the Supreme Court.

In a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission said its attention was drawn to a newspaper report that misquoted an INEC official regarding the exercise in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West local government areas.

“The Commission hereby affirms that contrary to the report, the proposed delineation has not been suspended, and no final decision has been taken on the matter,” Olumekun said.

He further clarified that the Supreme Court, in its judgment delivered on December 2, 2022, directed INEC to carry out the delineation exercise, stressing that the Commission remains committed to complying with the order.

Olumekun also confirmed that the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is being conducted across all local government areas within the Warri Federal Constituency.

INEC appealed to all stakeholders in the area to remain calm and maintain peace while the process unfolds.
