U.S. Warns Corrupt Nigerian Elites Face Visa Ban
The United States has cautioned that high-profile Nigerians involved in corruption risk being barred from obtaining visas as part of its renewed push to strengthen accountability and fight graft.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasized that corruption will not be overlooked regardless of social or political standing.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. visas,” the U.S. government said.
The warning comes amid President Donald Trump’s tougher immigration measures designed to curb irregular migration. According to official figures from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, more than two million undocumented immigrants have been deported since Trump began his second term in office.
