Nigerian Army pledges support for NYSC, condemns rejection of Corpers by some employers

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibikunle Ajose has condemned the rejection of Corps Members by some employers, describing it as a “waste of national potential.”

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu has condemned the rejection of Corps Members by some employers, describing it as a “waste of national potential.”

Speaking at Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto, during a courtesy visit by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, he urged organizations to engage Corps Members and benefit from their skills and energy.

He hailed the  NYSC as a vital national asset and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to the safety and success of Corps Members.

General Ajose described the relationship between the Army and NYSC as “symbiotic” and emphasized joint efforts to protect Corps Members, particularly during transit.

“We strictly enforce the no-night-travel policy. Once it’s 5 p.m., Corps Members must lodge at the nearest Army formation and continue their journey in the morning,” he said.

The GOC also praised the appointment of Brigadier General Nafiu, calling him “a courageous and intelligent officer with exceptional administrative skills.”

In response, Brigadier General Nafiu thanked the Army for its unwavering support, citing specific interventions like hostel renovations, sponsorship of camp activities, and proactive security measures.

“I’ve received detailed reports of your generosity and commitment to NYSC in Sokoto and other states under your Division. We’re deeply grateful,” he said.

The NYSC DG also called for sustained collaboration to ensure the safety and well-being of all Corps Members.
