FG Urges Calm Amid U.S. ‘Country of Concern’ Designation, Invasion Threat
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on citizens to remain calm following the designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and comments suggesting a possible military intervention by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Idris made the appeal on Monday during a courtesy visit to Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, in Dutse. He assured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the capacity to safeguard the nation and manage diplomatic relations responsibly.
The Minister, who was in Jigawa to attend the North West 2025 Youth Pally and the Presentation of President Tinubu’s two-year achievements, said Nigerians must avoid panic and resist narratives aimed at destabilising the country.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has all it takes to secure Nigeria from destabilising elements, as well as mend any cracks in our nation’s relationship with our international friends and partners. Nigerians should please remain calm,” Idris said.
The U.S. designation had triggered heated reactions, with some citizens supporting the stance while others voiced concern over what they described as external interference and negative global narratives targeted at the country.
